So… what’s up?
Howdy! Welcome to 2021, and my first newsletter! My dream is finally coming true. Yes, since I was young I dreamed to eventually start a newsletter that would give me more text characters and less feedback than twitter. We did it, Joe.
A little basic background on where I am at right now: I am behind the wheel of a large automobile. I am in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife. How did I get here??
Okay, no, sorry. I am in NYC, working on writing, comedy, and music.
Prior to the pandemic, you could find me performing live all over the place. I had a sketch show at the Peoples Improv Theater called, “The Bone Zone Sketch Show,” which I produced, wrote, and acted in with my friend Kate Dellis. I was hitting up open mics with my standup (and even one sold out show at the PIT!). I was in the basement of the Triple Crown Ale House in midtown doing improv for little to no audience on indie night with my duo team, Loopholes, every week. I failed and bombed, but also, had a ton of fun even in that failure!!! Corny, but true.
Seeing as most of the stuff I was working prior to corona was live, this pandemic has definitely pushed me in different directions. Everything is digital, baby, and I’m trying to adapt. Which brings us to….
What have I been working on?
The past year, I’ve been so lucky to be a contributor at Awf Mag, a queer satire website. This year, I’ll be working on the writing staff, which is super exciting! You’ve got to check the site out if you haven’t, there’s so many hilarious writers. Here’s my pieces published this year in case you missed them:
This Incredible Sourdough Recipe Is Almost As Good As Eating Pussy
With Colleges Going Online, Incoming Students Defer Queer Awakening To Next Year
Non-Binary Person Reveals Gender By Blowing Tits Off
Lesbian Musters Same Enthusiasm For Biden/Harris As For 8th Grade Boyfriend
With Temperatures Dropping, ‘Sir–Sorry–Ma’am’ Season Approaches
Santa Now Covering Top Surgery
This year is also when I got my first paid screenwriting gig!!! I got to work with LIVVIA to bring her vision to life for a murder-mystery themed short film and music video for her song, Monster. Check that out here. Can you find the gay subtext I hid in this heterosexual video? Let me know!
Aside from that, I’ve been working on a comedy music album. And I’ve been tweeting a lot, which counts as writing, right? One of my 2021 resolutions is to go viral. Here’s my twitter if you haven’t followed yet.
What am I watching?
I love TV. So, each newsletter, I will include one TV recommendation that I stand behind. In this letter, the honor goes to Ted Lasso on Apple TV. It’s funny in the sweetest way, which is needed now more than ever frankly. Jason Sudeikis is hilarious. I think it’s incredible when the first season of a show can really find its footing, and Ted Lasso does just that.
Who’s making me laugh?
Here I will point you to other funny people that deserve your attention, praise, and money! This week we have Tessa Skara, a hilarious musical comedian!!!! Her Instagram is packed with incredible songs, which you can also check out on Spotify. Here’s all of Tessa’s links.
And that’s that!
Boom. First newsletter done. Thank you for joining me in the fun haus!
Xoxo, Loie
This is my favorite line. Laughed out loud! "Believe in yourself, do the bare minimum," Thanks!
This is so great!
