So… what’s up?
True Fun Haus fans might remember my January letter featured my New Year’s Resolution: GO VIRAL. I am so pleased to announce that I have accomplished my goal already–I’m done for the year! I am now a TikTok millionaire (I assume this is the term when your video gets a million views on TikTok).
The video is a sketch I made with Queer Window, the all-queer and trans sketch team I’m on! It’s called Manpons: Tampons for Men, and it puts a satirical trans-masculine twist on hyper masculine advertisements. It felt pretty cool to have my trans content (which some have called niche) enjoyed by thousands of people, regardless of gender. Watch the full sketch here:
It made me incredibly happy to see lots of other transmasc and non-binary people feel affirmed and be able to laugh about something that’s typically dysphoric.
I mean… if that’s not inspiration to keep making queer and trans comedy, I don’t know what is.
Even though the response was overwhelmingly positive, I–being the totally mentally stable and healthy person that I am–sought out as many negative comments as I could find. Let me take you on a journey…
Hmmm is it sexist to make satire that critiques sexism? Discuss. To be fair, I looked at this person’s profile and they are 14, so they probably just haven’t read any theory yet. Typical teen.
Well?? Isn’t anyone going to help them out? I’d love to know too. Time for a contest! Tell me what’s offensive about my video and you’ll win a heartfelt, public apology from yours truly.
It seems my video filled this person with so much rage they could barely type. Jokes on you, pal–commenting on the video tells TikTok you want more of my stuff! Point: Loie.
Dean isn’t a hater which I appreciate. However, he does raise an important question: is it gay and/or trans to sew shirts and bake pie? Hmmm… well, actually, yes–it is. Welcome to the community, Dean. Cut me a slice of that trans pie.
What have I been working on?
Queer Window – Thursday, April 8th, 9:30pm-10pm EST – Squirrel Theater
Queer Window, the queer sketch team I am writing and acting with, got invited back to stream our second show at the Squirrel Theater! Our first show was awesome, so you don’t wanna miss this one.
It’s going to stream via The Squirrel Theater’s Twitch page (here). No ticket required. Twitch can be viewed on a browser or via an app on your phone. Again, sketches from the show will be uploaded to YouTube (like Manpons), and I’ll share those in next month’s newsletter!
Here’s my most recent satire pieces for Awf Magazine! I’m going to start including a lil sample from them here.
When asked what they will do now that they have finished their show, the couple showed some uncertainty. Cooper remarked, “we’ll either break up or watch all the Star Wars movies to see the lesbian fighter pilot in the last one.”
COVID Vaccine Distributed Using ‘L Word’ Chart
Gavin Newsom explained that Phase One includes vaccinating “the sluttiest lesbians–total Shanes” in order to branch out as widely and quickly as possible. When reporters asked how straight people would eventually be vaccinated, Governor Newsom was quick to retort, “This is California. Bisexuality exists.”
More pieces to come. Check my Twitter and Instagram to catch my articles right when they drop. @loieplautz on all platforms.
MUSICAL COMEDY! I’ve been hitting the zoom open mics with my comedy songs! As promised, here’s a live video performance of The Self-Care Song.
Full music video and recording forthcoming.
Photo edit above by Stefania Rubial to show off lazy lam earrings! Check out their Instagram and website.
What am I watching?
The Great North. New adult animation on Fox from the creators of Bob’s Burgers. Much like Bob’s Burgers, it’s funny, wholesome, and has an amazing cast. It’s in the midst of the first season, so new episodes and past episodes are on Fox and Hulu!
Who’s making me laugh?
Lorelei Ramirez. One of the funniest, most absurd comedians out there. Pre-pandemic, I went to their live show, Not Dead Yet, in Brooklyn and saw the most deranged and hilarious 30-minute improv of my life. They are featured on Los Espookys on HBO (highly-recommend). They are also a visual artist, and you can buy their designs on here. (I have the Lamictal painting on a t-shirt.)
Follow their twitter and Instagram.
And that’s that!
I did it! Thank you for joining me in the fun haus!
Xoxo, Loie
